    London, UK

Architects Waldo Works appointed Illuminationworks to design the lighting for an update to an iconic British brand’s flagship store on New Bond Street.  Smythson, known for its luxury stationery, was in the process of adding other types of leather goods to its collection, including fashionable handbags and luggage pieces.

LEDBar Mini fittings were used for the subtle but bright illumination of the display cases while Tokistar’s Advantage series was used to uplight the impressive neo-Georgian architectural ceiling.

RobLight’s Avant-Garde range of fibre-optics were used to solve a problem of display case heat at Seilers Jewellers in Basel.

‘They had a problem,’ recalls Michael Schweizer of lighting designer TIC. ‘The jewellery was hot. If a customer wanted to see a ring or a watch, the staff had to take it out and leave it on the table so it could cool down.’ The solution was cold fibre optic light with Avant-garde fittings in the in-store cases.

Cleverly designed to blend in with any substrate, these fibre optic ends are fully flexible for fine-tuning light.  As with the complete range of new downlights from Roblon, they can be focused, tilted and locked-off from the front of the fitting without the need for tools or removal from the ceiling.  They are adjustable through 360° and include a glare-free lens. The range is available in three sizes of fitting to accommodate fibre optic tails from 2mm to 10mm.  It also features adjustable beam angles and a position locking mechanism for precision illumination of display or decorative lighting schemes. The Avant-Garde is available in several finishes – black, white, grey, chrome and antique bronze.

The iconic Boodles store in the heart of Liverpool has recently been completed refurbished, including a striking exterior lighting scheme enhancing the features of the Grade II listed façade.

Paul Donegan, director of INTENSITY lighting design, recommended the Light Projects LEDStar4 as the ideal spotlight to provide a high-quality, long-life and sustainable lighting scheme.

The LEDStar4 is perfect for this kind of application where extra impact is needed to accent architectural features. The spotlights are available in many standard finishes, on this occasion a custom RAL 9001 was chosen to blend in with the façade of the building.

Incorporating a Cree CXB COB LED, the LEDStar4 can produce up to 1584 lumens and is available with interchangeable 12°, 24° and 38° optics along with a range of accessories including diffusers, shields and cowls.

The fittings were installed to the ledge running below the windows using the standard, easy fixing surface mounting bracket. Power was provided from DALI drivers housed in 4 way IP66 junction boxes and connected to the building’s dimming control system.
