Light Projects specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of lighting fixtures and accessories for Architectural & Display lighting.

From our theatrical beginnings in 1970’s Covent Garden as early innovators in Low Voltage lighting, we have an enviable pedigree in supporting lighting designers, specifiers and end-users in realising their creative visions through light.

We continue to harness the latest LED technologies to deliver innovative products that adhere to the highest standards of efficacy, performance and aesthetics to meet the toughest environmental demands.

Richard Pilbrow sold the business to James Wadsworth and his father in 1985 and Light Projects moved to our home in Jacob Street in 1985. Charlie Wadsworth joined the company in 1991 followed by Roger Beckett and Charles Stewart joined in 1989. This team saw tremendous growth and some highly prestigious projects installed around the world.

From our South London manufacturing base our dedicated production team, assembles, tests and dispatches in the shortest possible lead times.

Our own Made in Britain products are complemented by equally innovative ranges from our distribution partners: Tokistar, Wibre, Norlys and Evica.

Four decades of lighting innovation

1976: Light Projects is founded in London.

1976: Light Projects becomes the first company to introduce low-voltage (PAR36 50w 12v) lighting in Europe for the relocation of the Royal National Theatre to London’s South Bank.

1982: The iconic Barbican Theatre opens in London featuring Light Projects’ fittings.

1985: Light Projects moves from Covent Garden to its current office in Bermondsey, SE1.

1986: Light Projects is the first company to adapt General Electric’s low voltage mirror lamps (MR16) for exterior applications with a surface-mounted spotlight and recessed uplighter.

1989: Light Projects fittings are specified by Lighting Design Partnership in their scheme for Central London’s Palace Theatre, at the time, one of the first uses of window-reveal lighting.

1990: Roger and Dick from Light Projects showcase new frontiers in landscape lighting (and carpet design) in London.

1991: Light Projects launches Magnafix, one of the world’s first downlights using magnetic technology for easy relamping.

2000: UK Design Council Awards Raylight interior spotlights a Millennium Product Award.

2002: Light Projects is one of the first companies to adapt fittings to house RGB LED technology, using a 36W RGB Colour Mix LED to light the domes at Whiteleys Centre in London’s Bayswater.

2004: Light Projects’ LEDStar range of interior and exterior spotlights launch.

2007: Minor CMH compact exterior high output spotlights launches.

2012: ArtLED Gallery spotlight with Xicato engines & and extensive reflector system launches.

Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring – lit using ARTLed.

2014: MentorLED Soraa and Xicato are launched as an update to the traditional the Halogen Mentor range.

2015: LEDStar5 with Soraa Light Engine launches for exterior applications.

2018: A Royal Academy of Music refurbishment with lighting design by Ulrike Brandi Licht opens in London with a deconstructed chandelier comprised of 600 RobLight fibre-optic crystals and recessed LED downlighters supplied by Light Projects.
